The American Association of Caregiving Youth (AACY) will join the Saturday closing session of the Aging Life Care Association’s 42nd Annual Conference on Saturday, April 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Austin.
The session, “Caregiving Youth and Dementia Justice: The Hidden Frontline of Care,” will bring together AACY Founder Dr. Connie Siskowski, Jodi O’Donnell-Ames of Hope Loves Company, Patti LaFleur of Lorenzo’s House, and Madeline Grace Asbell, Caregiving Youth advocate and AACY Texas Youth Ambassador, for a mix of film, personal storytelling, and practical strategies focused on recognizing and supporting Caregiving Youth.
The session will also feature the trailer for “Shifting the Narrative: The Story of Lorenzo’s House.”
More than 5.4 million children and teenagers in the United States provide care for a family member with a chronic illness, disability, or age-related condition. Most do not know their role has a name. The session will make the case for why recognition, support, and visibility matter for this largely invisible population.
