Caregiving Youth Featured in Leading Family Nursing Textbook

PRESS ALERT

Caregiving Youth and AACY Featured in Nation’s Leading Family Nursing Textbook

The American Association of Caregiving Youth (AACY) is proud to share that both Caregiving Youth and AACY’s work are included in the upcoming 8th edition (2026) of Family Health Care Nursing: Theory, Practice, and Research. This is the top-ranked textbook for family nursing education in the United States and Canada.

The textbook is a cornerstone of nursing education, currently used in more than 200 nursing schools across North America. It has received the American Journal of Nursing (AJN) Book of the Year Award for editions 3, 5, 6, and 7, and is widely recognized for preparing nurses to deliver theory-guided, evidence-based care to families throughout the life cycle.

Authored by Melissa Robinson, PhD, RN; Deborah Padgett Coehlo, PhD, C-PNP, PMHS, CFLE; and Paul S. Smith, PhD, RN, CNE, the textbook equips nursing students with the knowledge needed to support diverse family health needs from health promotion through end-of-life care.

Thanks to Dr. Kimberly Kintz and Dr. Mindy Zeitzer of Linfield University, the textbook continues to feature specific content on Caregiving Youth and highlights the work of AACY. This inclusion ensures that future nurses are introduced to the reality of children and adolescents who provide care for ill, injured, elderly, or disabled family members. The chapter builds on content first introduced in earlier editions and has been updated for the 8th edition to reflect current data and practice.

By reaching students across the United States and Canada, this textbook plays a critical role in preparing healthcare professionals to recognize and support Caregiving Youth in both clinical and community settings.

AACY remains committed to advancing awareness, education, and solutions for the over 5.4 million Caregiving Youth across the nation.
